Restricted Breeds
In 2002, the Queensland State Government amended the Local Government Act to include the “Restricted Dog Legislation”. Under the new legislation, persons owning the following breeds of dog are now required by law to register the animal with Council. A photograph of each dog has been placed next to the relevant breed name, for easy reference.

Bengal Cat (Permit Required) The bengal cat is a cross between a domestic cat and the wild asian leopard cat. |
The legislation also applies to any crossbreeds and offspring of the above species. Important points of the new legislation include the following:
The dog must at all times, wear a collar with an attached identifying tag.
The dog must not be in a public place unless it is muzzled and under the effective control of someone who has the control of no more than 2 dogs of any breed or type at the same time.
All restricted dogs must be desexed.
A childproof enclosure must be maintained for the dog at the premises on which the dog is kept.
Applications to keep a restricted dog can be made at Gladstone Regional Council's Gladstone Office. Applications must be accompanied by a colour photo of the dog; a copy of a veterinary certificate providing proof of de-sexing and the payment of a prescribed annual registration fee.
