The Gladstone Region celebrates its fourth literary festival with an exciting range of workshops and events for school students, parents, teachers, librarians, readers, writers and illustrators. The CCLC offers a program for all ages and interests, with five award-winning Australian authors and illustrators

Sunday 25 July 2010 WRITING & ILLUSTRATING WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS & YOUNG ADULTS
At Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum
- 9.00-11.30am Colin Thompson Creating a Story Costs $25 (incl GST) per workshop. Max 15 participants.
- 12.30-3.00pm Lisa Shanahan So You Want to Be a Writer? Writing Fiction for Adults and Children OR David Miller Paper Sculpture in Illustrating a Story Costs $25 (incl GST) per workshop. Max 15 participants in each.
- 11.30am-1.30pm One-On-One Sessions with Margaret Kennedy Agency (10 mins) Please supply a 300 word summary and up to 1000 words of the manuscript with your booking, and it will be forwarded to Margaret Kennedy prior to the day. Note: A maximum of 10 bookings will be taken and must be made no later than 30 June 2010 Sessions $15 per person (incl GST)
- 3.15-4.15pm Margaret Kennedy, Literary Agent, with the authors Panel Discussion on Writing and Publishing
- Panel discussion is open to all workshop participants only and is free.
- Lunch is included if attending both morning and afternoon sessions.

Notes for schools:
- All Port Curtis District students – primary, secondary, public education and private education – are invited to the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday workshops.
- Cost: $5.00 (+ GST unless booked through school) per student per session.
- Schools are to provide transport for their students at their own cost.
- Session times are 9.30 am –10.30am, 11.15 am – 12.15 pm, 1.15 pm – 2.15 pm.
- The Carnivale is looking at introducing an exciting online component in 2010, whereby students can log on and interact with an author. Watch this space for more details!
Book Sales: Books by the authors and illustrators will be available for purchase and signing throughout the Carnivale courtesy of The Book House. Lists will be available prior to the Carnivale for ease of purchasing.
Curtis Coast Literary Carnivale Inc.: The Curtis Coast Literary Carnivale is organised by voluntary representatives from schools in the Gladstone Regional Council area, Gladstone Regional Libraries, booksellers and community members who include: Robyn Sheahan-Bright (President), Sue Norris (Secretary/Treasurer), Peter Cramb, Pamela Whitlock, Janelle Gibson, Chris McMaster, Linda Ryan, Sandra Vince, Bindi Waugh and Trudy Zussino.
Aims of the Carnivale:
- To promote the love of literature through exposing the Curtis Coast community to a diverse group of renowned Australian authors and illustrators
- To provide opportunities to meet with and engage in discussions with authors and illustrators
- To strengthen diverse community partnerships and enable community ownership while promoting the Port Curtis area
- To offer the community a chance to explore all elements of literature including the steps involved in writing, illustrating and publishing
- To extend understanding of and ability to make decisions about authorship and illustration as a possible career path opportunity
