Queensland's 150th Celebrations

Queensland celebrates 150 years of independence from New South Wales on 10 December 2009. This milestone provides a unique opportunity to celebrate Queensland throughout 2009. Listed below are a few events happening in our region in conjunction with the celebrations, for a full list of events in our State visit the Q150 website.

The Gladstone region is gearing up for a series of community events that celebrate Queensland's 150th year of independence from New South Wales. The main Council-run or coordinated events for the celebrations include a visit by the Q150 Steam Train; the Gladstone Region Q150 Colonial Fair; an Early Settlers Descendants' Dinner and the opening of Seventeen Seventy Foreshore Redevelopment Project.

The Gladstone Maritime Historical Society has also received Q150 funding to help promote Australia's maritime history and celebrate the acquisition of decommissioned naval vessel HMAS Gladstone as a museum display piece.

Earlier this year, Gladstone Regional Council participated in the Queensland Mosaic Commemorative Project in which local artists Beryl Wood and Kim Scrimshaw's artistic talents were captured on two tile pieces. These local works will feature on a 41 square metre commemorative mosaic that will be unveiled at the RNA Exhibition in Brisbane in August.
