Healthy Active Gladstone Region is a strategy to get the inactive active and the unhealthy healthy. A range of projects have been developed to assist residents, organisations and businesses of the Gladstone Region to BE SMART and TAKE PART.

Healthy Active Workplaces

healthy workplaceIt is good business to be in the business of providing a working environment and culture that gets the very best from staff. There is plenty of evidence from good and successful employers that a positive and proactive approach to employee health pays off.

Measurable gains include reduced absence, higher work-rate, fewer mistakes, improved teamwork and better customer service.

 

Does your workplace encourage healthy active employees?
Do you want to implement a program that improves the physical and mental health of employees?

  • Arrange discount vouchers for employees to join a fitness centre or sporting organisation.
  • Take the team for weekly games of touch, basketball, soccer or tennis using local sporting facilities or schools.
  • Send a reminder email out to employees at knock off time to “Find your 30 with your family” (referring to the Queensland Government Find your 30 campaign - www.your30.qld.gov.au/ ).
  • Set up a team of Ambassadors to promote and motivate physical activity and healthy eating in the workplace.
  • Provide motivational signs on the back of the toilet door.
  • Arrange for healthy lunches or a bowl of fruit in the lunch room.
  • Promoting awareness for health and fitness

27 members are taking part in The Biggest Loser. Our aim with the project is to support and motivate each other through out the journey of the contest. We weigh in every Monday for three months. At the end of months one, two and three whoever has lost the most percentage wins a cash prize.
GAPDL 4972 4000 Tess.johns@gapdl.com.au GAPDL have started discussing ways to organise regular physical activity sessions (such as cricket, soccer, volleyball and touch games). GAPDL are inviting staff, volunteers, members and the general community to be involved. Promotion of the activities will occur through their ‘Contact!’ newsletters.

BIEEC run programs for students and community groups , which involve a lot of activities from canoeing to cycling, snorkelling and high and low ropes to name a few.  The more students we can get through our centre, the more we can educate on getting them out and about and enjoying what we have here in the beautiful area.  We're open to work with community groups and schools in running initiatives.     For more information email: klaff10@eq.edu.au

Staff aim to be healthy active role models to their students.  They are committing to healthier food options at staff meetings and social sport after work.
Gladstone Base Hospital Marian Rossouw As part of Healthy Active Gladstone Region the Gladstone Base Hospital is holding a healthy habits competition with weekly challenge emails being sent to staff. A mobile whiteboard will also be placed at various locations around the hospital with healthy tips and ideas. The program also links staff with the Lighten Up Program and other resources.
