Getting Active Options
Here are over 50 fun ideas to get active:
The first steps are:
- Get yourself in a good mind set to be active – be inspired and inspire others
- Make a family commitment to be active
- Be excited to move your body – find the fun
- Make the time, your life or the life of your family depends on it
- Put signs up around the house to remind you to be more active
- Talk to yourself regularly about how good you are feeling when you do some physical activity
- Look in the mirror regularly to see how great you look now your getting active
AT HOME and AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD:
- Make an obstacle course in the back yard (or inside). Time the kids and yourself to complete the circuit
- Set up a home exercise circuit with any exercise equipment, weights, skipping rope, trampoline or steps. Put on a good CD and do a station per song!
- Wash the car (and the neighbours car when they ask!)
- Get that gardening done! mowing, weeding and pruning are great ways to be active
- Do exercises while you are watching TV
- Take the kids out for a game of backyard cricket or soccer (involve the neighbours)
- Put a CD on and dance
- Encourage your neighbour to go walking and make it a regular event.
- Go for a ride on your bike!
- Take the dog for a walk ~ you need it as much as him!
- Put on that exercise DVD (that is now probably in the back of the cupboard) and give it a go!
- Think up an aerobics session and do in the lounge room or in the pool!
- Have races to see who can do the household chores the quickest
- Play wrestling with the kids or your partner
- Run up stairs – more than once
- Throw a Frisbee
- Have a dance party
- Fly a kite
- Play on or with an exercise ball for 30mins
- Take your Grandma or Pop for a walk
CONSIDER MOVEMENT AS A PLEASURE NOT A BURDEN:
- Take the furthest car park and walk
- Walk the long way around the shops
- Take the stairs instead of the lift
- Walk or ride to the shops, work or to get lunch
- Walk the kids to school
- Take up skateboarding or rollerblading
- Invite friends for park party
- Doing fun exercises in your chair at work – get colleagues to join in if they think you are crazy.
BE ACTIVE IN YOUR COMMUNITY:
- Visit the local parks near your house
- Visit some of our impressive regional parks for a picnic
- Spend a day at the beach or river, fishing
- Visit the local pool ~ check out the regular activities while you are there!
- Visit the gym or fitness centre
- Take golf lessons
- Take the kids to a kinder gym session
- Go rock climbing!
- Go ten pin bowling!
- Join up for boxing training
- Join in on fun runs or community activities
GET INVOLVED IN SPORT:
- Join one of the many sporting organisations we have in the Gladstone Region
- Become a volunteer, referee, official and support our great sports…while getting active!
- Organise a workplace round robin or sports day
- Create your own sport and get friends to come and play
