Seventeen Seventy Camping Grounds

In June 2005, the Seventeen Seventy Camping Grounds received the prestigious Travel Train Holidays Central Queensland and Southern Reef Tourism award for Best Caravan and Camping Ground in Central Queensland.

Seventeen Seventy Camping Grounds provide both powered and non-powered sites, excellent amenities and camp kitchen. The unspoiled landscape, unchanged in 220 years, is popular with tourists who come to marvel at the beautiful vistas and tranquil waters.

The area is renowned for rock and estuary fishing and is the closest point to Lady Musgrave Island. Day trips operate to the island and fishing charters take visitors to excellent fishing and diving locations at the outer reef islands.

How many sites can I book and how long can I stay?

To allow equal access to the island campgrounds there will be a maximum allocation of three (3) sites per family.

There will also be a maximum stay of fourteen (14) days.  Extensions may be granted if no other bookings have been received for the additional time requested.  Please contact the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre on 4972 9000 to organise an extension.

Can I have a campfire?

Wood fires will not be permitted and campers/visitors should bring fuel stoves (gas or kerosene).

Can I take a generator?

Generators are permitted at the campgrounds, however we ask campers to be considerate with regards to noise.

Can I take a chemical toilet?

Composting toilets are located at both campgrounds.  The caretakers on the island clean these daily.

You may take a chemical toilet for short term stays however there are no chemical toilet waste disposal units at the campgrounds.  The waste cannot be emptied in the composting toilets as the chemicals kill the organisms required for the effective operation of the composting systems.  Chemical toilet waste should not be buried or disposed of in the sea.
