Stage 2 Offical Opening

In 2004, Council developed a Kirkwood Road Structure Plan for the SW section of the City. The Plan caters for a population increase of more than 5000 people and presents a blueprint for the future of an important part of the City.

The Plan has taken into account the services and infrastructure needed to support the development. This includes the construction of Kirkwood Road from Harvey Road to join Dixon Drive providing a number of new traffic routes from the area. Together with the duplication of the Dawson Highway expected to be constructed in the next two years, these new routes will relieve the pressure that has built up recently on Beak Street and Penda Avenue.

Council has resolved to make a commitment that the following roads will be constructed:

  1. Kirkwood Road from Koowin Drive to Harvey Road
  2. Improvements to Harvey Road to render it fit to be a major traffic route from Kirkwood Road to Dawson Highway.

Council has made a commitment that the roadworks involved will be constructed by the end of February 2007 assuming development continues at the current rate.

Council has also given a commitment that it will not provide a connection from Kirkwood Road to Harvey Road until such time as the current and potential future conflicts between traffic and parking for the Clinton School are resolved. Council will work closely with the Clinton School community to develop plans for improvements that will provide for the separation of parking and traffic movements on Harvey Road in a manner which enhances the safety of the users of the school and the general community.

This initial response represents an investment of $6 million in infrastructure to support the existing and future development of the city.
